Focus Areas

These focus areas outline Energizing Our Future NM’s grantmaking efforts, which reflect our commitment to improving education, workforce development, and overall quality of life for New Mexico communities.

Education

We are committed to fostering educational excellence and preparing New Mexicans for success in the 21st century. Our grantmaking will prioritize programs that:

  • Literacy Initiatives: Support literacy programs that ensure individuals have the foundational reading and writing skills necessary for lifelong learning, including programs that focus on science of reading practices.
  • STEM/STEAM Programming: Enhance access to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics education, empowering students with the skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
  • Financial Literacy: Equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to manage personal finances, understand economic principles, and make informed financial decisions.
  • Work-Based Learning: Provide students and job seekers with hands-on experiences through internships, apprenticeships, and partnerships with industry leaders, bridging the gap between education and employment.

Workforce Development and Entrepreneurship

We believe that a robust workforce and vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem are essential to New Mexico’s economic prosperity. Our grantmaking will support:

  • Workforce Development Programs: Enhance job readiness by funding initiatives that offer skills training, certifications, and career advancement opportunities, particularly in high-demand industries.
  • Entrepreneurship Programs: Encourage innovation and economic growth by supporting programs that offer resources, mentorship, and access to capital for aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners, with a focus on underrepresented communities.

Quality of Life Programs

We recognize that a community’s well-being extends beyond education and employment. To promote holistic development, we will fund:

  • Nutritional Support Initiatives: Address food insecurity and promote healthy living by supporting programs that provide access to nutritious meals, education on healthy eating, and nutritional resources for New Mexico families.
  • Healthcare Programs: Increase access to essential healthcare services, particularly in underserved areas, focusing on preventative care, mental health, and chronic disease management.
